Moon Destroys on New Album "Omni," Zach Amster & Going Heavier | EP.39

A new chapter, a new voice, and a heavier record. Juan Montoya and Evan Diprima of Moon Destroys join The Sonic Road Podcast to talk about Omni, the band's new album out September 4th on Blues Funeral Recordings. Moon Destroys built their name on atmospheric, cinematic heavy rock, and Omni sharpens all of it into something more immediate and punchier. Founding members Juan Montoya (ex-Torche) and Evan Diprima (ex-Royal Thunder) get into the whole story — the origins of the band, the debut EP that pulled in guests like Troy Sanders, Paul Masvidal and Bryan Richie, the breakout 2025 run touring with Elder, Dozer and The Sword, and signing with Blues Funeral Recordings after a conversation with Jadd Shickler. The centerpiece is the addition of Zach Amster of Abrams on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Juan and Evan explain how meeting Zach on the road in 2025 changed everything, how quickly the songs came together once his melodies and lyrics landed, and why Omni feels captured almost in real time compared to She Walks by Moonlight. They also dig into the record itself — the Type O Negative and Nine Inch Nails textures on "My Eyes," keeping it DIY with Evan recording in-house, Mario Quintero of Spotlights on the mix and master, and the analog, less-is-more approach that gives the album its weight. The conversation also covers the state of the heavy underground in 2026, the fight for attention in a saturated market, why albums beat singles, merch cuts and creative ways bands are fighting back, and the upcoming US tour with The Well — including a Cleveland stop at the Beachland Ballroom where the band plans to play Omni nearly in full.
